Sign a message with Sparrow Wallet
Sparrow signs messages from any single-sig address in an open wallet, including hardware-wallet accounts such as BitBox02, Ledger, Trezor or Coldcard connected through Sparrow.
Your keys never leave your wallet. Never paste your recovery words anywhere, including KeyProof. Signing a message is not a transaction.
Chains: Bitcoin
Signature format: A Format selector, with Standard (Electrum) as the default. KeyProof verifies Electrum and BIP-137 style signatures, plus BIP-322 for bc1q/bc1p.
Sign a message in Sparrow[1]
- Open the Sparrow wallet that contains the exact address the exchange asked about. Check both receive and change addresses.
- In the Addresses tab, right-click that address and select Sign/Verify Message. (You can also use Tools → Sign/Verify Message, but then you must type the address yourself.)
- Confirm that the Address field shows exactly the requested address.
- Paste the exchange's message into the Message field exactly as given. Spelling, capitals, spaces and line breaks all matter.
- Leave Format on Standard (Electrum) unless the exchange asks for another format.
- Click Sign. If you use a hardware wallet, review the address and message on the device and confirm only if both match.
- Click Verify and continue only when Sparrow shows "Verification Succeeded".
- Copy the address, the original message and the signature exactly as shown.
Tips
- Signing a message does not create a Bitcoin transaction and never needs your recovery words.[1]
